The ARCAN laboratory organises the SGA/SSA Annual Meeting on 22/23 November 2024 in Geneva. We propose to discuss over the two days about interdisciplinary research related to the diet of ancient populations.
The first day - Friday November 22 - will be devoted to the Conference, with several keynote speakers presenting international and national research currently being carried out in bioanthropology, archaeology and broader themes. More specifically:
- Gwenaëlle Goude (LAMPEA, Aix-en-Provence, France) will present the “WomenSOFar project: Individual life histories and WOMEN Status at the Onset of FARming. Bioarchaeological perspectives in the French and Mediterranean Prehistoric context”
- Anne Mayor (ARCAN, University of Geneva) will present the SNF sinergia-project “Foodways in West Africa: an integrated approach on pots, animals and plants”
- Jocelyne Desideri (ARCAN, University of Geneva) will present the SNF-project “Towards a renewed vision of alpine agro-pastoral societies through the analysis of food practices, lifestyles and peopling dynamics”
At the end of the day, we'll have the opportunity to visit the archaeological site of Geneva Cathedral in the hands of Nathan Badoud, cantonal archaeologist, and Audrey Poncet, bioanthropologist, both from the Service d'archéologie de Genève (SAGe).
The second day - Saturday November 23 - will be divided between the SGA General Meeting in the morning and the Workshop devoted to studies on dental calculus (potential & limits) in the afternoon led by Charles Le Moyne, postdoc at the ARCAN laboratory.
